A China MIM supplier should be a factory you can audit, not a trading office you cannot. Ningbo Precision Tech molds, debinds and sinters in-house in Ningbo, Zhejiang, ships worldwide, and supplies Panasonic and Fukuda under an ISO 9001 system.
Not because labour is cheap — MIM is a capital process, and the sintering furnace costs the same anywhere. Buyers source from China because the MIM supply base is concentrated there: powder, binder systems, mold shops and sintering capacity sit within a few hundred kilometres, so tooling lead time and process iteration are faster than in most other regions.
The trade-off is distance. That is manageable if you choose a supplier that behaves like a factory: documented process, dimensional reports, change control and a named engineer who answers questions in writing.
Our plant is in Ningbo, Zhejiang — about 2 hours from Shanghai by road, 30 minutes from Ningbo port. Molds, powder, plating and heat treatment are all available locally, which is why a custom part can go from drawing to first article in 5-8 weeks.

|---|---|---|
| Are you the factory? | Named plant address, video walkthrough, audit welcome | Only a trading office, no furnace on site |
| Who sinters the parts? | In-house furnace with logged profiles | Sintering subcontracted elsewhere |
| Can I see a dimensional report? | First-article report on a comparable part | Only catalogues and photos |
| How do you protect my design? | NDA before drawings, tooling ownership in writing | Reluctance to sign, or tooling "stays with us" |
| Who owns the mold? | Customer owns it and can request it back | Vague answer |
| What is your defect rate? | Numbers per part family, with the containment process | "No defects" |
English-language quotations, DFM notes and dimensional reports; WeChat, email or video calls in your working hours; a single named contact from RFQ through shipment. Where a customer needs it, we run first-article approval by video with the CMM report on screen.
Typical sequence: DFM review within 2-3 days, quotation with tooling and piece price, tooling 4-6 weeks, first articles with report, then serial supply with material certificates per lot.
A factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China. Molding, debinding, sintering and secondary operations are in-house; the plant is open to audit.
Yes. EXW, FOB Ningbo, CIF and DDP on request. Serial orders normally go by sea from Ningbo-Zhoushan; first articles by courier.
NDA before drawings, tooling ownership written into the order, and mold drawings handed over on request. Your STEP file is not shared with third parties.
The customer. The mold is built for your part, and can be transferred or bought out at a price agreed before the order.
Prototypes from 500-1,000 pieces; production economics turn at 10,000+ pieces per year. Below that we quote anyway and will say if CNC is cheaper.
Dimensional and material evidence first: first-article report, SPC data and material certificates. Containment, replacement and root-cause actions are agreed in writing before the next shipment.
