Cemented carbides, also known as hard metals (Hartmetall in German), are composite materials consisting of hard carbide particles (typically tungsten carbide WC) bonded together by a metallic binder (usually cobalt Co). MIM technology enables the production of complex cemented carbide components with near-net-shape precision.
Traditional cemented carbide manufacturing relies on pressing and sintering, which limits geometric complexity. MIM breaks through these limitations:
| Property | Typical Value |
|---|---|
| Hardness | 85-93 HRA (1400-1800 HV) |
| Density | 14.0-15.0 g/cm³ |
| Transverse Rupture Strength | 2500-4000 MPa |
| Fracture Toughness | 8-15 MPa·m½ |
| Maximum Service Temperature | 500-800°C |
We offer cemented carbide MIM production with WC-Co grades from 6% to 15% cobalt content, custom formulations available upon request. Our process delivers density above 98% theoretical with excellent hardness and wear resistance.
