What Is a Right Putter Pawl?

The right putter pawl is a toothed ratchet component inside the bicycle rear derailleur that engages with the shift indexing mechanism. When the rider clicks the shifter, the pawl rotates the indexed cam one position — moving the derailleur cage laterally to guide the chain onto the next sprocket. Shift. Click. Engage.
